Handmade sculptural vessel with a rounded, half organic and half synthetic machine appearance. Have some UFO feeling in your life!
Part of The Shapes of the Others, the Extraterrestrial Vehicle works imagine vehicles made by another civilisation. Broad upper bodies swell above narrower bases, creating silhouettes that feel both heavy and buoyant. Each piece has its own stance, proportions and character.
Across the series, circular openings resemble portholes, rounded protrusions suggest organs or sensors, and incised marks recall an unfamiliar script. These details give the vessels a sense of construction and purpose while leaving their workings to the imagination.
Turquoise glaze flows across uneven surfaces, catching on raised details and gathering in hollows. Darker passages and the warm colour of the earthenware give the pieces the appearance of equipment that has travelled, weathered and acquired a history.
Each vessel is built by hand from coils of Danish earthenware clay, then finished with slip and glaze. The glazed interior holds liquids well, allowing flowers and branches to become part of the composition. The work can also stand alone as a ceramic sculpture.
