About Marica

I am Marica Lindh, a self-taught artist based in Luleå, northern Sweden.

My background as a dancer, choreographer and dance teacher has shaped the way I observe people and movement. While dance remains present in my visual language, my work today is equally concerned with stillness, presence and the emotions that arise in what remains unspoken.

Working primarily in a figurative style with abstract elements, I often return to the female figure as a way of exploring subtle expressions and the emotions that reside in quiet moments. I am fascinated by what we cannot see - the inner life beneath the surface that rarely reveals itself in a facial expression. Through my paintings, I want to leave room for the viewer to form their own interpretation.

I work mainly with acrylic on linen canvas, building my paintings in layers and occasionally incorporating other materials to create texture and depth. Colour, light and composition are essential elements of my process, allowing me to evoke a feeling rather than tell a story.

I hope my paintings invite the viewer to pause for a moment, leaving room for personal interpretation, memories and emotion.
