About Karoline

I, Karoline Andersson, am an interdisciplinary artist born and based in Gothenburg, working with painting, performance art and their intersection. I have studied art for two years at KV Konstskola and dance for one year at Artistique Dance and Perform.

My art is based on the body and movement, identity and playfulness. The works reflect my queer identity through colorism, expression, or themes, striving to create representation and space for the LGBTQIA+ community. My work often addresses limiting prejudices and gender norms. There is also a focus on the inner child, playfulness, intuition, and the joy of creation, as part of my own
identity exploration and as a counterweight to the myth of the suf ering artist. The exploratory and experimental creative process is vital to my practice and the finished pieces.

When painting, I use oil paint for the slow and methodical painterly processes, while acrylic paint diluted with water captures fluid movement through its quick drying time. Painting becomes a way to eternalize fleeting moments like movement and intuition. When I paint, I enter a deep state of flow and notice details. It provides a space for processing experiences and emotions.

My performance art is rooted in dance, primarily modern dance, but is performed in silence with a focus on intuition and movement freedom. I aim to break free from the strict forms and lines that dance often entails. I take a holistic view of the interplay between body and mind and believe that the
body holds intelligence and memory. As a dance teacher I place high value on movement, which I aim to show through my art.
