About Elizabeth

Lizzy Herrick is a Malmö based artist, originally from Portland, Oregon. She is of Klamath, Modoc & Northern Paiute descent and a member of the Klamath Tribes.

She works with a combination of watercolors, gouache, acrylics, and even housepaint to create a vibrant pop-art, illustrative style that celebrates the strength of contemporary Indigenous culture. Rooted in Indigenous and pop culture references, her work aims to uplift and represent urban Native American identity.

She explores the complexities of Native American identity while challenging narrow narratives of an “authentic”, “pure”, or “traditional” Native American. Her work focuses on the Native diaspora, mixed heritage, and the experience of belonging. She examines belonging as an experience of living in the in-between – between cultures, places, histories, and identities. Using humor, contemporary visual language, and familiar culture references she creates an accessible entry point into conversations around identity, diaspora, colonialism, cultural belonging, and Indigenous resilience.
