Collection: Thurees Obenza

Thurees Obenza is a Filipino multidisciplinary artist based in Gothenburg, Sweden whose practice moves between photography, food, installation, and object-making. Her work transforms everyday materials- discounted produce, thrifted frames, vintage technology, embroidered textiles into thoughtfully staged still-lifes and immersive environments that examine value, waste, ritual, and memory.

Working across projects such as Still Good Still Life and her evolving culinary design practice, she reframes what is overlooked or discarded, treating food and domestic objects as both material and metaphor. Rooted in Filipino cultural memory and shaped by migration, her work reflects on preservation, consumption, and the politics of womanhood within conservative and Catholic contexts.

Blending art historical references with advertising aesthetics, devotional symbolism, and handcrafted set-building, she approaches making with resourcefulness and intention. Through humor, ornament, and critique, she creates spaces where personal narratives can be re-staged with agency: tender yet audacious, intimate yet socially aware.
