About Sofiya

Growing up in Ukraine, immersed in nature, folklore, and imagined worlds, shaped the way I learned to see. Forests, myths, and the feeling that ordinary places hold something hidden became part of my inner knowing. While I am drawn to many forms of making, painting is where my interests meet. It is a space where atmosphere, memory, and emotion exist together without needing explanation.

My paintings emerge through movement - traveling, observing, and drifting through unfamiliar landscapes to collect impressions before they disappear. I think of them less as depictions of physical places and more as states of becoming, mirroring an inner world full of dreams, longings, and transitions. The imagery in my art is deeply influenced by the fantasy films of my childhood. Their mythical forests and hidden realms felt entirely real to me, and that way of seeing never left.

In my work, nature is never just scenery; water stores emotion, and natural elements like pearls or shells appear like evidence washed ashore from the subconscious. Ultimately, I am guided by the feeling that everything is secretly connected - that images migrate continuously between memory, dream, and reality.
