About Jessica

I work primarily in oils, with landscape as the main focus of my practice.

I am drawn to fleeting moments in nature that, for some reason, stay with us, the sunlight filtering through trees, branches and grasses moving in the wind, or a landscape briefly glimpsed through a car window.

In my paintings, I allow the landscape to dissolve and become less defined. Forms blur and details fade, giving more space to light, colour and movement. Like a memory, the image is no longer entirely clear, yet the feeling of a place can remain, sometimes even more strongly than the image itself.

My work moves between the figurative and the abstract. Rather than depicting a specific place, I seek to capture the memory of having been there, a fleeting moment in nature that continues to linger.
