Collection: Bartolomeus Capetillo

I have been photographing since 2014. I am self-taught and work exclusively with analog photography. In my own darkroom, I experiment to create images with a personal character, unconcerned with fixed rules or conventions. I am interested in creating a sense of ambivalence and uncertainty for the viewer—analog film, with its frames and limitations, is what makes the process so compelling to me.

Analog is also a way for me to let go of control. I often have an idea of what kind of image I want to create, but it rarely turns out the way I imagined. I usually say that I stand between the camera and God and actually have very little to do with what ends up on the film roll. I want to honor that by not manipulating the images afterward. The photographs I exhibit are exactly what exists on my film rolls—nothing more, nothing less.
