Collection: Anna-Lena Westerlund

I am a Swedish ceramist working with stoneware. It is about 40 years now that I have been working in clay. And I am still fascinated by the material and all the ways to work with it.
This year I started making the flowers for gardens or balconies. They are the result of many fruitless tries to make sun flowers. Some of the the failures gave me new ideas and that is often the process I am working in.

Some years ago I discovered the japanese technique called nerikomi. A way to create pattern with the clay instead of painting it on the surface. I love the possibility to make dashing patterns an be able to work with rich and vibrant colors. Mostly, when you work with stoneware, what comes out are strict and not so colorful.
