This is a handbuilt ceramic house for a tealight in a mix of white and beige color tones. The style is minimalist yet rustic and with a country feel.
Here’s how the house is made:
I start by making templates in paper. Then the clay is kneaded thoroughly. I use a special kind of rolling pin to make slabs of clay, the technique is called slab-building. They need to dry slightly before I can cut, bend and join the pieces of clay. When the item is finished, I leave it to dry before it can be bisque fired, then glazed, and then high-fired to approx 1260˚C (cone 8). The whole process takes several weeks from start to finish.
