’The Queen of Montezuma’ is a tribute to the small village in Costa Rica that captured my heart many years ago when I first visited Latin America. That was the beginning of a lifelong love to the culture of Latin America.
This piece draws its inspiration from the violet, reimagined through my own artistic interpretation. It embodies femininity and dignity, taking its place with the presence of a true queen. Bold and unapologetic, it seeks to inspire the viewer to stand tall in their own power and embrace their true colors.
The flower is created using a combination of tufting with an electric gun, hand tufting, punch needle, and embroidery. The yarn is primarily wool, complemented by cotton and some acrylic fibers. The flower consists of two connected parts that can be adjusted, and integrated wires give the work a sculptural and dynamic presence.
The piece measures 81 × 100 cm.
