The Couple is a watercolor painting in black and white depicting a couple walking arm in arm up a flight of stairs to a building towards a large gate. The building has several architectural details such as the sculpture at the top left and to the left of it large gate. It is not clear what type of building it is, which also it is up to the viewer to interpret.
This artwork is painted in a slightly softer and more evocative style which leaves room for the viewer to interpret the painting and fill in the gaps. Notice the subtle ones the silver splash in some places in the artwork as well as the various watercolor effects which the artwork contains.
