This piece was inspired by Chinese and Japanese brush painting traditions, which naturally guided the process of creating it.
Although it depicts a calm, peaceful scene, I chose to call it Growing Wild. I kept thinking about young bamboo, how it reaches upwards with quiet determination, unconcerned by the tall grass surrounding it.
The idea felt personal to me. It brought to mind my children and how quickly they grow, but also the importance of giving new ideas and perspectives the light and space they need to flourish.
It carries a soft, hopeful feeling of spring.
