I was emotionally bored.
While painting this piece I felt emotionally bored, as if I was stuck waiting for something. That feeling frustrated me. I'm young and I refuse to wait. I rush through what is unnecessary and delay what truly matters. I hurry home from work and won't call the person I actually miss. That's why I think that people who wait for something good can f*ck off.
It's an expressionist portrait painted with oil and dry pastel using my palette-knife. Unlike many of my other works, I was determined with the color palette in this piece. I wanted to challenge myself by working in a more controlled way, which show in the distinct blocks of color. Towards the end of the process I felt that something was missing. So I added the turquoise dry pastel in the background, bringing movement and life.
